Overview

Hyatt Place Melbourne Airport is seeking a hands-on and experienced Chief Maintenance Engineer to lead all engineering and maintenance operations for the hotel. This key leadership role is responsible for ensuring the property's facilities, guest rooms, public areas, and building systems are maintained to the highest standards of safety, quality, and guest satisfaction.

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems, along with a commitment to preventive maintenance, team development, and operational excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and oversee all hotel engineering and maintenance operations.
  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment performance and asset longevity.
  • Ensure all guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas are maintained in excellent condition.
  • Monitor and maintain HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance-related issues and operational emergencies.
  • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance team members while fostering a culture of accountability and teamwork.
  • Coordinate and manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Maintain compliance with Hyatt standards, OSHA regulations, local building codes, and safety requirements.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, purchasing, inventory, and capital improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, work orders, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Partner with hotel leadership to support operational goals, guest satisfaction, and property improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure the hotel maintains a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for guests and associates.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or maintenance leadership experience in a hotel, resort, or hospitality environment .
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building systems.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and work order management systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve facility and equipment issues efficiently.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements, life safety systems, and building code compliance.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-development skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Experience managing vendors, contractors, and maintenance-related projects.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and on-call responsibilities as business needs require.
  • Technical certifications, trade licenses, or hospitality engineering certifications are a plus.
